LIFESTYLE: TOP 6 SECRET CULT CONFRATERNITY IN NIGERIA, THEIR HISTORY & BELIEFS (PHOTOS)

For those of you who don’t know how the various cult groups came into being in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, here’s a brief to further broaden your spectrum. Most of the publications I have read on the subject of cultism seem to agree that what is known as “secret cults” in
tertiary institutions in Nigeria started when the Pyrates Confraternity was formed at the University college Ibadan (UCI) in 1953.

The confraternity was formed by six students at UCI, namely, Wole Soyinka, Aig-Imoukhuede, Pius Olegbe, Ralph Opara, Nat Oyelola and Olumuyiwa Awe. The Society was formed for the following reasons among others:
To Abolish convention.
To revive the age of chivalry.
To end tribalism and elitism.

There is no doubt that the intentions of the founders of Pyrates Confraternity were altruistic. They obviously did not set out to create the hydra-headed monster (or phenomenon) known as cultism in today’s terminology. But like a farmer clearing a bush in the harmattan and setting a fire to a heap of dry leaves, what started with a group of six has now become a chimeric underground movement, a tyrannical monster with many heads.

The list of the secret cults operating in our educational institutions looks like what you will find in the encyclopedia of any computer anti-virus software. At the count it was estimated that there are 44 cult groups operating in various campuses in Nigeria, This is probably an underestimate.

It has also been estimated that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), University of Calabar (UNICAL), Univerisity of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Lagos (UNILAG), and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) have not less than 16 cult groups operating in each of these campuses at any given time.

Below is a List of Various Cult Groups and their Beliefs.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SEADOGS (NAS)PYRATE CONFRATERNITY PYRATE CONFRATERNITY

This cult group was the first identifiable cult group formed between 1952 and 1954 at the foremost Western University of Ibadan now University of Ibadan by seven persons namely: Ralph Opara, Ikhehare Aig-Imokhuede, Sylvanus Egbuchie, Nathaniel Oyelola, Pius Oleghe, Olumuyiwa Awe and Wole Soyinka. The pioneers of  NAS were collectively known as “The Magnificent Seven”. It was headed by CAPON BLOOD.
The aims was basically to combat the then increasing occurrence of violence caused by tribal groups during students’ activities, western influences and other secular gatherings, in ways suitable to the cult group but with the advent of time  deviation of purpose manifested.
Pyrates sayings and beliefs;
Odas is Odas.
No Friend, No Foe (NFNF).
Absolute No Lagging (ANL)

Members are knowns as ”AHOI” or ”P-C”

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SEALORDS BUCANNER ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (BAN)

In 1972, a member of the Pyrates Confraternity, Bolaji Crew (Code-named “Late Ahoy Rica Ricardo” and others were indifferent to the teachings and doctrine of the confraternity and as such, before one could say Jack Robinson, the birth of  a new cult group named Buccaneer emerged structuring it styles and hierarchical structure after the Pyrates. Different notorious cult groups had emerging without check from the concerned authority, unleashing terror on humanity and posterity.
Some beliefs and sayings:
No Price No Pay.
No brothers in the wood.
No laughing on board.
Blood for blood.
Let the devil that lead you guide you
They have other sayings, which are basically thereby to make new members feel they made the right choice in belonging to a fraternity with such high code of conduct and discipline.
Members are known as: ”Fine boys”, ”Ban Boys”, ”Alora”, ”Bucketmen”, ”Lords,” etc

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ADVENTURERS SUPREME VIKINGS CONFRATERNITY (SVC)

Three young men formed this confraternity in 1982 (also known as de Norsemen Club of Nigeria) was founded by a former members of the Buccaneers at the University of Port Harcourt, with code-name namely: Rising Angel Eric De Red Troppence It was also called victory COSSA presently the Alpha Marine patrols.  
Beliefs and sayings;
Blood on the high sea
Singing songs of  Hojas
Never to hang a leg Even in the face of death.
Members are referred to as:  ”Aro-mates”, ”Adventurers”, ”Vultures”, e.t.c.

THE NEO BLACK MOVEMENT OF AFRICA, BLACK AXE CONFRATERNITY.

This cult was formed at the University of Benin in Benin City in 1976 by some young men with the motive of building a body to fight against the oppression against Blackman (Students) in the university.
Those who initiated this association are rumoured to be runaways from Neo black Movement of Africa, an organization in South Africa that fought the apartheid war and escape into Nigeria for safety. Investigation has shown that it was the borrowed notion that was imported to Nigeria.

Some of their beliefs and saying includes:
The Blackman will be freed with an axe
No f*ck ups
Forgiveness is a sin
Don’t betray your brother in the hood
Obey before complain or Abeyance
He who price must pay

Members are referred to as: ”Aye” ”Axe-men”, ”Seven (7)” or ”Amigos”

THE FAMILY FRATERNITY- COSANOSYRA MAFIA CONFRATERNITY

This cult was formed in 1978 at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, but started operation in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1980. It started with eight (8) persons in its mob (institution) called the ONO-BRIGADO (1st Brigade) with the first Don as Don KOOLKAT. This cult is styled after the notorious Chicago and Italian Mafia/Mob stars.
Some of their belief and sayings include:
It is better for a bastard (non initiate) to chance/provoke a member than for a numbered bastard (members of other cult group)
Retaliation after oppression
Secrecy is where our power lies
They believe in gambling, partying, dating girls, etc.
Members are referred to as: ”Maf” or ”Mafians”

ASSOCIATION OF AIRLORDS SUPREME EIYE CONFRATERNITY

The cult was formed at the University of Ibadan in 1963, also affiliated to the Eiye Secret Society, which exist in the western part of Nigeria.
It was formed by the following students: Goke Adeniji, Dele Nwakpele, Bayo Adenubi, Bode Fadase, Tunde Aluko, Kayode Oke, and Bode Sowunmi among others.
It was name Eiye group and later metamorphosed into Supreme Eiye Confraternity (SEC). This cult group was established to make positive impact on the social-political mind, social cultural, physical and mental development of its members, and where indifferent to other conventional cult group.

Secrecy Autocracy Discipline Brotherhood
No Friend No Foe Members are referred to as: ”Fliers”, ”Airforce”, ”Airlords”, e.t.c

Others Other confraternities in Nigeria are Thu-Thu, Red Sea, Mgbamgba Brothers, Black Cat, The Fame, Snow Men, Fraternity of Friends, Black Cobra of Ife, Canary, Green Berrets, The Blood Spot, Scorpion, etc. The Ladies are not left out when you talk about confraternities in Nigeria.


So not neglecting them, below is a list of the top female confraternities in Nigeria:
Black-bra, Black Berets, Woman Brassier (brave), Daughters of Jezebel, Pink Lady, Amazons, White Angels, Lady of Rose, Sisterhood of Darkness, Golden Daughters, The Ten wonderful Girls, White Ladies, The Royal Queens, Daughters of the Knight, The Knights of the Aristos, etc.

The sorority groups were formed as female responses to their male counterparts’ activities, imitations, and most interestingly these females are girlfriends of the members of the male cult groups. They act as spies to their male counterparts, prostitutions syndicates, agents of set-ups, e.t.c.
